The story
The atmosphere begins with the open kitchen – the energy of the chefs, the scent of cooking, and the sense of being part of the action. Menus are designed for sharing, built around small plates that change with the seasons and the availability of ingredients. This might mean a menu shifts on the day, depending on what arrives from suppliers like Goddards of Norfolk, who work with local family-run farms, or Staithe Smokehouse, where traditional techniques produce exceptional smoked fish.
The restaurant’s Norfolk Sharers reflect this local focus: sharing pies and lamb shoulders in winter give way to whole fish and the popular Norfolk fish platter in summer. The wine list ranges from modern classics to more adventurous bottles, with a secret Black Book of rare vintages and personal favourites.
Afternoon Tea is served daily between 12pm and 4pm, featuring a blend of traditional flavours, modern twists, and local touches, all presented on mismatched china curated by the Head Chef. Sunday roasts are wholesome and hearty, designed for relaxed company. A Pantry menu in the Main House offers grazing options without a reservation.
The Grain Store was named one of Condé Nast Traveller’s Top 21 New Restaurants in 2024, and its Michelin Recommended status confirms the quality of what’s on the plate. Whether you come for breakfast, a leisurely lunch, or an evening of shared plates, the food speaks for itself – simply prepared, thoughtfully sourced, and best enjoyed in good company.
