The story
Roux at Skindles brings the Roux family’s culinary heritage to the banks of the River Thames in Taplow, near Slough. Chef Patron Alain Roux opened this French-inspired brasserie and cocktail bar in partnership with his late father, Michel Roux OBE, in November 2018. Their shared dream was to recreate the relaxed, round-the-corner brasseries of France—a place where family and neighbours gather over good food and drink. The restaurant earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, a testament to its consistent quality and warm hospitality.
The menu draws heavily on French technique but also embraces influences from around the world, using top-quality seasonal ingredients. An open kitchen allows guests to watch as dishes are prepared—homecooked in style, with an emphasis on value and flavour. Alongside the à la carte offerings, Roux at Skindles is known for its spectacular Sunday roasts, Friday night bar bites, and a dedicated children’s menu. The first-floor cocktail bar and terrace offer panoramic views over the Thames, making it an ideal spot for pre-dinner drinks or a relaxed afternoon.
The setting is as historic as it is beautiful. Skindles first opened as a coaching inn in 1743 and later became a glamorous hotel and nightclub, hosting acts like The Rolling Stones and John Lennon. Today, under Alain Roux’s stewardship, the venue blends that storied past with a contemporary, welcoming atmosphere. Live music nights, a private dining room (the Chairman’s Room), and waterside weddings are all part of the offer. General Manager Stéphane Damezin leads a front-of-house team known for friendly, attentive service, ensuring every visit feels special. Whether you’re there for lunch on the terrace, a seasonal set menu, or a Champagne Henriot pairing dinner, Roux at Skindles delivers the Roux magic with a distinctly British riverside charm.
