The story

The Old Store: A Norfolk Bakery Celebrated for Artisan Bread and Brunch

The kitchen and its origins

The Old Store operates as a dedicated Norfolk bakery in Snettisham after its founders recognized a simple craving for properly made bread. Running alongside their neighbouring Old Bank venue, the couple transformed the space into a microbakery and coffee shop. Their commitment to the craft earned gold and third place at the Tiptree World Bread Awards within nine months of trading. Today the team continues to refine authentic sourdough using regenerative Wildfarmed flour and Edinburgh Butter Company cultured butter.

Plates built on provenance

The breakfast and brunch menu changes with the seasons while keeping familiar comfort at its core. Guests commonly order eggs prepared multiple ways alongside fish finger sandwiches served with iceberg lettuce and house tartare sauce. Savoury options feature truffled mushrooms on thick toasted slices or a loaded fit bowl containing locally kiln smoked salmon, butter beans, sun-dried tomato houmous, and grilled halloumi. Every protein traces back to regional suppliers like J.E. Howard butcher and Fruitpig black pudding makers.

The dining room and daily rhythm

Visitors move through a straightforward counter display where trays of freshly baked cakes sit beside glass jars of loose leaf teas. The layout encourages lingering over slow drip coffee from the Norfolk Coffee Company or tasting inventive seasonal drinks. Staff manage table turns politely during peak hours while keeping the environment relaxed enough for remote work or dog visits. These consistent standards helped secure a Local Gem designation from The Good Food Guide alongside national recognition as one of fifty top British bakeries. An accessible mobile ramp ensures the space welcomes guests regardless of mobility needs.

Drop in for your daily bread, but don’t ignore the exceptionally good breakfast/brunch/lunch offer at this super-friendly venue, run by the couple behind the nearby Old Bank restaurant. Linger over eggs every which way or plump for a fish-finger sandwich with iceberg lettuce and homemade tartare sauce. Elsewhere, a plate of truffled mushrooms on toast is the perfect lunch fix, ditto the generous ‘fit bowl’ loaded with locally smoked salmon, butter bean and sun-dried tomato houmous, grilled halloumi and more besides. Also check out the piping-hot duck-fat hash browns. The counter is laden with inviting cakes and bakes, and care is poured into the inventive, seasonal drinks list too.
