The story
At Food Leigh-On-Sea, chef patron Liam Lingwood and co-owner Jemma Cooper have built a restaurant with sustainability at its core. Their modern cuisine is rooted in ethical sourcing, transparency, and seasonality, working closely with small-scale UK producers who practice organic and regenerative farming. The kitchen’s waste-conscious methods—whole-animal butchery, preservation, and ethical foraging—define every plate. It’s an approach that earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended award for 2026, recognition of its quiet confidence and commitment to responsible fine dining.
Food Leigh-On-Sea offers a range of dining experiences. On Fridays and Saturdays, a Menu du Jour is served at lunch (two courses £30, three courses £38), while evenings feature a tasting menu at £69 per person, with optional wine pairing for £40. Sundays are given over to a three-course Seasonal Roast dinner (£45), with the option of free-flowing bubbles.
A plant-based tasting menu is always available, gluten-free and dairy-free, using strictly locally grown organic vegetables. As the team puts it, they aim to "redefine fine dining—where sustainability, creativity, and a deep respect for nature come together seamlessly."
Liam Lingwood started as a pot wash, working his way through Essex and London kitchens before taking the helm at Food Leigh-On-Sea. His eye for detail and passion for flavour drive the kitchen. Co-owner Jemma Cooper helps steer the restaurant’s ethos, building relationships with suppliers who nurture the soil as much as the crop. Together, they have created a place where modern cuisine feels both thoughtful and generous—a warm, welcoming spot on Leigh Road that’s as committed to the planet as it is to the plate.
