The story
North Street Kitchen occupies a converted boat shed on a quiet street in Fowey, with a view across the water. The space is unpretentious: an open kitchen, counter seating for two, and a relaxed atmosphere that suits its coastal setting.
Ethan and Hazel Friskney-Bryer took over in February 2024, keeping the informal feel while sharpening the focus on seafood. The menu changes daily, shaped by what chef Jordan Davies pulls from the sea just a few miles offshore. Most of the fish is caught by Davies himself, ensuring that the kitchen works with the freshest possible catch.
The sharing-plates format means each visit offers something different. There are no fixed dishes; instead, the kitchen responds to the morning’s haul. The simplicity of the cooking puts the seafood at the centre, supported by seasonal produce.
The restaurant’s approach earned it a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide for 2025-26, an award that highlights good quality, good value cooking. North Street Kitchen was also named Best Local Restaurant for the South West in the Good Food Guide 2024 – a double nod to its standing within the region.
Lunches are walk-in only, with no reservation needed. Dinner service runs on Friday and Saturday evenings in summer, and Friday nights in winter; bookings are taken by email. The open kitchen means the restaurant cannot accommodate serious shellfish or seafood allergies – a note born of transparency rather than rigidity. Well-behaved dogs and children are welcome, though there is no separate children’s menu.
North Street Kitchen is a place that lets the local catch speak for itself, with a setting that feels both of the coast and genuinely hospitable.
