The story
In the village of Armscote, just outside Stratford-upon-Avon, The Fuzzy Duck occupies a building that was once the local blacksmith and later an 18th-century coaching inn. Saved and sensitively refurbished in 2013 by the family behind Baylis & Harding, the pub retains its original character: exposed beams, flagstone floors, and magnificent fireplaces sit alongside contemporary touches, creating a space that feels both rustic and refined. The property is Armscote’s only pub, and it serves as a welcoming retreat for locals and visitors exploring the North Cotswolds.
The kitchen, led by Executive Chef Andy Edwards, focuses on a “contemporary Cotswold” style – a blend of innovation and accessibility that defines the cuisine. The team sources exceptional local produce, and the menus change seasonally. On the current pre-order menu, dishes like confit chicken leg pressing with black truffle mayonnaise, seared scallops with Café de Paris butter, and duck breast with fondant potato and pickled cherries show the kitchen’s ambition. There’s also a dedicated vegan menu and a Sunday menu that keeps the pub’s roots firmly in view. The bar offers a thoughtfully curated selection of local ales, beers, and ciders, alongside a cocktail menu that ranges from classics to contemporary mixes.
The Fuzzy Duck’s consistent approach to cooking and hospitality has earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026. The award reflects the pub’s ability to deliver serious cooking in a relaxed, unpretentious setting – whether you’re stopping in for fish and chips with a pint, or settling in for a full Champagne dinner. The refined yet comfortable atmosphere, along with the team’s commitment to quality, makes this a destination worth seeking out in the Stratford-upon-Avon area.
