The story

Croft 3 In Tobermory | Award-Winning Scottish Cooking On The Isle Of Mull

The working croft kitchen

Croft 3 in Tobermory anchors a pared-back approach to Scottish cooking on the Isle of Mull. The kitchen draws heavily from the surrounding soil and sea, treating the property as an active farm rather than a static venue. This grounded model secured a Local Gem ranking from The Good Food Guide. Jeanette Lynn regularly leads practical sessions that preserve traditional island foodways.

Island plates and seasonal focus

Menus shift with whatever arrives fresh from the water or the garden beds. Guests frequently order the signature haggis served alongside crumbly cornbread and a sharp salsa verde. Richer evenings often feature a layered lasagne built from pork and venison ragù. This Scottish kitchen relies on precise timing rather than heavy sauces.

Communal dining and coastal views

Narrow windows and clean plaster walls create a quiet environment inside the renovated building. Long wooden tables encourage conversation between strangers sharing a table overlooking the sea. The architects preserved the original stone structure while opening sightlines toward the rugged coastline. Summer evenings frequently draw crowds to the oyster bar positioned near the main entrance.

Evening pours and seasonal rhythms

The drink list stays intentionally brief, focusing on natural wines and locally distilled spirits. House-made cocktails balance botanical notes with distinctly Scottish flavours. Service begins at five in the evening, allowing diners to watch the daylight fade over the water. The team hosts private gatherings and themed dinners throughout the warmer months.

2026
The Good Food Guide — Local Gem

Reached via a network of long and winding roads, this enterprising, personally run restaurant sits cheek by jowl with a working smallholding – part of an award-winning architectural renovation project. Communal tables, narrow windows and clean lines give the dining room a monastic feel, and the menu is equally pared-back with the emphasis on home-grown and seasonal produce from the island cooked in a homely style. Haggis with crumbly cornbread and earthy salsa verde is a signature dish, but also expect anything from half a lobster with a ‘mountain’ of niçoise salad to sinfully rich lasagne with pork and venison ragù. A short, sharp drinks list features natural wines, vegan beers, cocktails and local spirits. There’s also a café and shop for walk-ins.
