The story
On the High Street in Tring, Crockers Chef's Table offers a dining experience built around precision and seasonality. The restaurant, which earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, is led by Head Chef Scott Barnard. Barnard, a two-time finalist on MasterChef: The Professionals, brings a classical foundation to his cooking, honed over nine years at the award-winning Colettes at The Grove. He now leads the kitchen at Crockers, delivering a confident take on Modern British cuisine.
The heart of the experience is the Chef's Table itself. With seating for just sixteen guests, it is designed for interaction and immersion. The space is available for private events or individual bookings, and the set tasting menu changes regularly. A sample evening menu might include dishes like a teriyaki duck doughnut with sesame and chive, Scottish scallop with Porthilly oyster and Exmoor caviar, or South West lamb with romanesco and sheep's cheese. For those who prefer a more relaxed setting, the main dining room offers a shorter, equally seasonal set tasting menu at a lower price point.
Beyond the dining rooms, Crockers also features a Cellar Bar. Open from 7:30 PM without the need for a reservation, it showcases the restaurant's cocktails and wine list. The team, including Restaurant Manager Julie Tripp, focuses on creating a memorable but unpretentious atmosphere. The menus, from a £45 lunch to a £135 weekend evening tasting, all reflect Barnard’s commitment to letting the ingredients speak, making Crockers a distinct destination in Hertfordshire for Modern British dining.
