Once a bank, now a pub

The Old Bank in Westerham occupies a building with a remarkable past. Originally a branch of the Bank of England, it operated from 1888 until 1975 before being transformed into a Mac’s pub in 2013. The interior remains one of the most striking you’ll find – high ceilings, original bank fixtures, and a sense of history that sets the scene for a relaxed meal or drink.

Honest food and local ale

The kitchen focuses on straightforward, well-executed Modern Cuisine with a pub foundation. Starters like warm sourdough with whipped butter, baked Camembert with pistachios and honey, or a five-bean chilli nacho sharer lead into mains that change regularly. Gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options are clearly marked. The bar pours Hertfordshire-brewed beers from McMullen’s, alongside a carefully selected wine list and classic cocktails.

Currently closed for refurbishment

The Old Bank is temporarily closed for a makeover and is due to reopen in July. Once it does, it will continue to serve its honest Modern Cuisine in one of the most beautiful pub interiors around. Whether you’re a local or visiting Westerham, it’s worth seeking out.
