The story
In the historic market town of Sherborne, The Green is a family-run neighbourhood restaurant that has earned a Michelin Recommendation. Head Chef and Owner Sasha Matkevich, who started his career under pioneering London chefs, opened The Green in 2012 and has built a team that shares his passion for locality, freshness, and creativity.
The menu here changes daily, driven by what is seasonally available from Westcountry suppliers and foraged ingredients gathered by the chefs and local community. This is Modern British cooking at its most grounded: a sample lunch might begin with Dorset crab crème brûlée with pickled red radish, or charred Cornish mackerel with wild garlic pesto and beetroot rye bread bruschetta. Mains could include local tenderloin wrapped in Parma ham with wholegrain mustard mash and pork jus, or West Country rack of lamb with roasted Jerusalem artichokes and rosemary lamb jus. Desserts range from a beetroot and ginger sticky toffee pudding with Sherborne castle brandy caramel sauce to a 70% dark chocolate fondant with griottine cherries and Dorset sea buckthorn sorbet.
The atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious, with outdoor seating available and a private function room that seats up to twenty guests. Dietary requirements are gladly accommodated. The Green is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday, and closed Sunday and Monday.
